Netflix is now offering downloads – so why do I need PlayOn Cloud?

Download Netflix to any PC or Mac with PlayOn Cloud - all titles

I have to say – we were shocked when after 2 years of saying literally “We will  never offer downloads in the US,” Netflix did a sudden about-face this week. Maybe they were head-faking Amazon. Maybe they were responding to nascent market demand brought to light by software like PlayOn Desktop and PlayOn Cloud. Whatever. It left us scratching our heads.

But looking at it closer, we think it highlights even more the market for PlayOn. People want the freedom to watch shows and movies on ANY device at ANY time, especially offline. That has become clear. Only PlayOn Cloud can give you that freedom, and at a really reasonable price.

Right now, something like 60% of the total Netflix library is available for download. And while that’s a lot, if you’re into any of the Disney, ABC (Galavant, Agents of Shield, Grey's Anatomy, etc), Fox (Family Guy, Bob's Burgers), FX (Archer, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), BBC, Travel Channel, Food Network, Cartoon Network shows as well as many movies, you still can’t download them. And the ones you can download, well – you have to watch them on your mobile device (you can’t move them to your PC  to watch later when you have space on your phone/tablet or to watch on your PC/Mac). And – that means that you can’t save expiring titles to watch when you have the time.

In addition to Netflix, PlayOn Desktop also streams and record from over 100+ channels like Hulu, HBO Go, HBO Now, Hulu, Yahoo View, Comedy Central, Amazon Video, and more. PlayOn Cloud currently has a smaller subset of channels on top of Netflix to record from -- including Hulu, Amazon Video, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, HBO NOW, PBS, and the list is still growing.

Download Netflix to any PC or Mac with PlayOn Cloud
The ability to download to a PC/Mac is something that neither Amazon nor Netflix offers. And – your Netflix downloads expire in 2-7 days, whether you have a chance to watch them or not. For some people – that’s fine, but for many, they want the flexibility that PlayOn offers, including the ability to download to ANY device, including your PC or Mac; to save titles after they expire (http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/11/21/whats-leaving-netflix-in-december-2016) to watch when convenient, ability to download the ENTIRE library, not just selected titles.

Also, many people want to be able to watch CURRENT shows offline.  Without PlayOn, iOS and Android users are left with the option of purchasing from iTunes or Google Play.  If you purchase from iTunes, you're locked into watching on Apple devices.  So the tradeoff is - buy an episode of The Flash from iTunes for $2.99 and only be able to watch it on Apple devices or pay PlayOn $.99 to record the same episode from TheCW (free) and watch it anywhere...it’s 1/3 the price and 2x the convenience. There simply is no offline solution for new episodes of current TV shows other than a straight purchase from iTunes, Google or Amazon...OR recording with PlayOn!

The suite of PlayOn apps can really give you TV freedom!
