Something is just not right when using PlayOn. Help!

100% CPU Usage and Memory Leaks

There have been recent reports of unusually high CPU usage and growing memory leaks in MediaMall Server 3.0.6.1075 and below. We apologize for these issues and are working hard to resolve them. Your continued patience is greatly appreciated.

So far we have determined that the 3rd party UPnP library we use is to blame for the memory leaks when used with certain routers. A temporary workaround is to disable UPnP support in your router's configuration page and if using Mobile Access, configure manual port forwarding.

To facilitate a proper resolution to these issues, we could use your help in better understanding which routers cause them to occur.

If you are experiencing these issues, we ask that you please install the latest PlayOn release (update: 3.0.11 currently) first. If you still have problems, post the following details about MediaMallServer.exe here.

PlayOn: 3.0.6.1075
CPU Usage: Normal
Memory Usage: 312MB and growing
Router: D-Link DIR-601
Mobile Access: Enabled/Manual
My Media: Enabled

Then try the latest test patch.
1) Download MediaMallServer-3.0.11.1125.zip.
2) Open PlayOn Settings
3) Make sure the Server is stopped (click the Stop if not)
4) Extract MediaMallServer-3.0.11.1125.zip to your main PlayOn installation folder (typically %ProgramFiles%\MediaMall on 32-bit Windows or %ProgramFiles(x86)%\MediaMall on 64-bit Windows)
5) Replace the existing MediaMallServer.exe
6) Click the Start button to start the server
7) Post your CPU and memory usage results.

Then try running the latest attached UPnPLeakTester (v4).
1) Extract and run UPnPLeakTester.
2) Press the 's' key.
3) Note the CPU and memory usage of UPnPLeakTester in task manager.
4) Leave UPnPLeakTester running for an extended period of time (an hour seems good as most problem routers will cause UPnPLeakTester to leak every 5 minutes).
5) Note the final CPU and memory usage.
6) Press the 'q' key.
7) Post your CPU and memory usage results and attach the UPnPLeakTester.log file.

PS3 showing bottom bar on YouTube Videos (Movies)

Does anyone else have this problem? The bottom bar is displaying on some titles (we watch mostly movies) from YouTube. I just worry about it burning in on a plasma. It doesn't bother me that much, just that it's there. Noticed it with Lionsgate (user) movies.

Subtitles

anyway to get subtitles working with my xbox 360 and playon?

Gmail / Google Voice calls and PlayOn

Hi,

Google decided to allow Google Voice to make voice calls through their Gmail interface-- this works wonderful on my laptop at work, but I decided to try it at home where I have a PlayOn server installed to communicate with my PS3.

However, I noticed that the voice playback has defaulted to playback through PlayOn rather than my regular speakers. This is not true for other Flash / websites like MySpace, which properly plays back audio through my speakers.

Is there a good resource somewhere that I can use to set the default playback for Gmail to be my speakers rather than PlayOn virtual speakers?

For technical reference, I'm using:

  • Windows 7 64 bit
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.6.8
  • PlayOn 3.0.3.999 (PlayOn Premium)

Connecting to the Media Server on multiple devices

Hi, I'm kinda new at this. Have Playon working fine on the Wii. Added a ps3 in another room, and I can see the Media Server under Video, but when I click to connect, I get "Access to the media server is not allowed. It is possible that the system name for the PS3 system, "PS3-028" has not been registered. Check the settings for the media server." How do I register the PS3 with the media server?

Question about how MediaMallServer.exe spawns it's process.

Hey. Please see the image attached. I'm wondering why MediaMallServer.exe spawns a child process within itself instead of just using the all ready spawned process.

It's no big deal really, just curiosity. If I were to fathom a guess I'd think it was for multiple streams to different appliances, so that when one appliance stops streaming, it can release all it's memory while the second process continues uninterrupted... but that's just a guess (which isn't supported by the fact that in this screenshot, I only have one stream playing).

not all devices can always see the playon server...

I have several 360's and more often than not, at least one of them will either not see the server, or see it and not be able to connect.
It is on a wireless connection through a repeater bridge(dd-wrt in repeater bridge mode), same subnet/gateway as the main router..

running windows 7 pro 64bit

it seems to be working tonight (After the 3.0.8 release) but just wondering if others have been having this issue?

streaming through WMP12 doesn't exhibit this behavior..

Win 7 Ultimate/ Playon latest release/ stuttering after about 30 minutes.

It seems when I leave the PC for a short time, it seems to go into some "sleep state", even though suspend and hibernate are both disabled. When this happens, Playon starts stuttering. Moving the mouse resolves. Has anyone heard of any setting I need to modify to make this not happen?I really have all the Windows power saving features disabled. No hard disk shut down, no suspend, no hibernate. I'm obviously missing some sleep feature. What?

"Current running status" Also Not Running on First Start

Hello,

Seems there is a small bug with "General Settings" > "Current running status"

Every time I first start PlayOn it says its not running and I have to click the little box to refresh it for it to show "Running".

Running Play 3.0.6 on Win7 x64, been happening for all 3.0 builds. Just had the time to report it today. Sorry, better than never I suppose.

Take Care,

Will
