Hi.
This is a request to add XBMC as a supported platform for PlayOn.
PlayOn seems to work well on XBMC, and has a great following of interest.
The XBMC thread for PlayOn is http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36218 .
I point this out to you as there have been over 20,000 hits to read this specific thread. There is also currently an XBMC thread under the PlayOn Unsupported Platform forum.
Knowing that one PlayOn server can run all the XBMC's on a person’s network (I have three) makes the $30.00 a reasonable expense.
IF PlayOn were to adding XBMC as a supported platform (assuming that 25% of those interested would buy), THEN you could add an easy revenue stream of $150,000.
As the popularity of XBMC continues, you will continue to have a new revenue stream.
Please consider this and add XBMC as soon as possible!

Until we have sufficient resources to adequately test on devices/platforms other than the 3 we officially support now, XBMC (along with the rest) will unfortunately be in a "middle" ground, where we can only support them at arm's length. It doesn't mean that we won't do our best to figure out issues remotely, by analyzing the logs from users such as yourself. You are always welcome to send support requests. And as you point out, PlayOn does seem to be working quite well on XBMC. This should only improve over time -- both as XBMC makes improvements, and as our product becomes more and more DLNA-compliant and generic.

It should be noted that if you make PlayOn support XBMC Media Center then it will also automatically support Boxee Media Center and Plex Media Center as well as those are based on XBMC Media Center, you would also automatically support any future derivatives/forks projects of XBMC Media Center and I know a few more are those are planned by third-parties.

Andreas -- Thanks for the info! Feel free to contact us directly at support@themediamall.com as well.
Generally, from what we've heard and read, XBMC is working quite well with PlayOn. Even if we were to announce that it was an "officially" supported device, it won't make much difference in the end. Our goal is in fact to work on as many devices as possible, and we do our best to offer support where we can.
Our ability to list a device is officially supported is really a question of resources that we have available to test our server against that given client.

Agreed, as soon as this is supported I will gladly pay the $30 (and can vouch for several friends as well.)
even tho it might not be official supported i hope that it continues to work, im about to spend the 30 bucks to keep the software, this save me from using my pc and i dont need to spend the extra 100+ bucks for a netflix tvbox and it can do more
i hope more services come out that support this kind of technology
thanks much and hope for the best in the development of this great software
now i need more content, heh im greedy
I have read and understand the XBMC support position, but wanted to chime-in to mention that a licensed copy of PlayOn is providing Hulu, Netflix, etc access to 6 distinct Xboxes running XBMC at my sister's house, and they're loving it.
Note that being "officially supported" doesn't add a whole lot of specific benefit for our users. The bottom line is: if it works, great! And even if it doesn't work, we will take a look at support requests and offer guidance when possible.

If XBMC support is guaranteed, I'll buy right now.
Im so happy to see XBMC connect right into my pc with playon. Plays fine with a small adjustment of event server (increased time).
People with xbmc(xbox) ver waiting to see if it works. IT DOES !!

I still will probably purchase this, but I would feel more confident if support was official.
This works great with XBMC and the Mac version, Plex already. I just purchased PlayOn because it worked with my PS3 and with XBMC pretty flawlessly.
Unless it is a PlayOn change that breaks it on all devices, anything that breaks compatibility between PlayOn and XBMC is more likely to be from XBMC changes than PlayOn changes, in my opinion.
..... but isn't XBMC running on an XBox basically illegal software? Not preaching - I have 4 running at home right now. But expecting "official" support might be a little much.
Awesome program, though. I am definitely buying it. Works terrifically on my 360, but am still having trouble with it bombing out on my regular XBox after about 20 minutes. I have increased the "Continuous Repeat Delay" value to 2000, which solved 99% of the initial connection problems and boosted the streaming performance, but I still don't make it past about 20 minutes into a show. Any suggestions?
Okay, I will correct you, because you are very wrong.
XBMC is cross platform. It runs on Windows, Linux, MacOS and the original XBOX.
In some countries if you choose to use the XBOX, you may have to do illegal things to get it running. However most XBMC users are migrating to HTPCs.

It technically IS supported, as the MediaMall tech support team responds to support requests from XBMC users as much as any other platform.
I have been using PlayOn with my Xbox (first generation) and XBMC since the closed beta, and have NEVER had a problem with it being "unsupported". I paid for the license, and have been happy with the service.
At NO time was I ever told "You are using an unsupported device, and we can't help you." Anything with UPnP support works, and yes, that includes XBMC.
I'd like to know what you expect would be different for us XBMC users if it was to be officially supported by PlayOn, and MediaMall Technologies in general.
Not really. "Modding" the xbox (adding a modification chip that allows external and 3rd party software and files to be added) isn't illegal, it simply voids your warranty. As most of us with original Xboxes are far outside our warranty anyway, it's not that big of an issue.
It's what you DO with it that can be determined illegal. If you use it to play illegally downloaded movies and music, then yes. It would be illegal. But, in that same way, bittorrent programs should be considered illegal, because they CAN be used for illegal purposes.
Some of us actually obtained licenses to use our cross-platform software like XBMC through legal means (the CYA clause: 'cover your ...' well, you get the idea.)
I will purchase once XMBC support is official.
The only thing that "official" means from a practical standpoint is whether or not we actively test with the given device in our labs. If a device supports DLNA, then it should theoretically work with PlayOn. But if you have a specific technical issue, it's possible we won't be able to help.
