Xbox 360 content not supported

When I try to play anything I get the Xbox 360 error:

Can't play content because it may not be supported
Status code 69-80072741

I've submitted a support request, but has anyone else come across this?

Re: Xbox 360 content not supported

Almost all the errors on the Xbox really just mean, "Timed out waiting for the video stream". It's incredibly generic, and could be caused by dozens of potential issues.

I'm having exactly the same error. I've tried talking to help folks tonight but so far no luck. Did you ever get yours working?

Yep. Exact same error message here. Kind of a waste of time. And seems like the PlayOn people have never even tried to provide a solution. Nice.

Re: Xbox 360 content not supported

If you haven't done so already, please send in support requests in PlayOn Settings. This thread is over 3 months old, and there have already been a number of changes in the core PlayOn product since then.

Re: Xbox 360 content not supported

Can admin give more instruction on what to do? Seems like a common problem but no real help other than it could be multiple things and submit a support request. Why not list some of the multiple things and resolutions it could be?

Re: Xbox 360 content not supported

The list of potential issues is fairly extensive, and many of the workarounds and tests would take hours for users to perform, and in many cases be unrelated to the actual problem. We list many of these things in our FAQ.

The most streamlined way to get help is to submit a support request through PlayOn Settings so that we can check the diagnostic logs. We are working on making the logging functionality available in some way to users directly, so that self-diagnosis is easier.

A rundown of potential issues that can cause playback errors are:

  • Security software. Without it being configured to correctly allow full local and online access for MediaMallServer.exe, security software can block PlayOn from working. In some cases, it may block service from one provider, but not others. It may also suddenly start blocking PlayOn after an automated service update from your security software provider.
  • PC and network speed. If your home network, your broadband network, or your PC are bogged down and running slow, it could cause excessive timeouts, both in downloading the stream from the online provider, as well as converting it and sending it back over the home network to your Xbox 360. These timeouts may cause the video to permanently fail as far as the Xbox is concerned.
  • Windows problems. There are dozens of system components that PlayOn relies on: Internet Explorer, Flash, Silverlight, the .NET framework, Windows Media Player, etc. If any one of these components, or other core Windows libraries, are corrupted, missing, or blocked somehow, then PlayOn may fail to process videos properly. Again, this could affect one content provider, but not others.
  • Service outages. Sometimes, online content providers may stop working through PlayOn. When this happens, we generally catch it quickly, and post a known issue on the forum and through PlayOn Settings, and work hard on providing a fix as quickly as possible.
  • Bugs in PlayOn. Most software has bugs, and PlayOn is no exception. In these cases, we rely on support requests from our customers, so that we can diagnose and fix potential bugs in our product.
