lemme know what you find out mark916... I'm interested in getting one for my bedroom so I don't have to buy another console, but still have the ability to have a USB drive if i want it
Ohhhhh YESSS.. literally right out the box, the WDTV Live is already set to pick up DHCP, you can also set a manual address as well. I chose Media Server from the WDTV Live menu's, it found the PlayOn server without blinking, My monitor has a composite input, so I'm watching a Bluray rip of the movie 300 on the monitor, so it's not sharp through the composite hookup, but it works. I also choose to watch some CNN clips and LiveTv PlayOn plugin, it takes about 2 to 3 seconds for the video to start playing. Now keep in mind my WDTV Ethernet is plugged into the same switch as the PlayOn server, so this might be why it spools up so quick. My DSL download stream is almost 8kbps, slow compared to most cable connections, but it does the job. The WDTV Live UI is allot faster I noticed compared to the 1st WDTV model that I also own. Even going through the PlayOn server video menu's compared to the Wii setup is soo quick. One other cool thing I can do with the WDTV remote that I haven't figured out how to do on the Wii-Mote is just skip to each video through the Playon Plugins. “Ok I should be in bed now, but having fun now”
I got mine yesterday to replace my PS3 which I am giving to my daughter.
It works with Playon very well. Better than the PS3, I think, Picture quality is excellent (using HDMI) and NO CORRUPT data! Very stable.
The New WDTV Live is a perfect match with PlayOn, I mean it's no PS3, but for $120-$130 bucks, it's not a bad little unit, plays pretty much everything you can throw at it. I've seen the the PS3 in action with PlayOn, The WDTV does seem to navigate better through menu's and streams very quickly, at least in my setting it does.

I can play blu ray .iso's from the local drive.
I have been using the WD HD Live swince Thursday and have yet to have the problems I had with the PS2 (corrupt data).
Both WD TV and WD TV Live have the ability to "Skip" in increments of 10mins. Simply select Fast Forward >> on the remote and then select the "Next" button. It will skip 10mins.
I discovered "Preview" mode on the Video Settings of my new WD TV Live. While viewing the video list, you can view and hear the highlighted title in a thumb nail viewing window. It is a really nice feature. However, it screws up Netflix since it begins playing the movie in the thumb nail and when you go to play the movie, you get a message that a Netflix video is alreay playing on your device. I turned off the preview and Netflix played again without problem.
I purchased Playon after buying a wdtv Live. So far I would describe it as a must have! The ability to watch netflix and Hulu through Playon is awesome. Like most people I was very cost conscious and was on the fence about spending $40.00 dollars on more software. Let me just say that it was money well spend!
The Only Question I have is that when watching netflix and Hulu I am experiencing issues with rewinding or fast forwarding streaming media. I know that there are limitations due to the fact that its streaming but if I stop a movie and try to watch it again it skips forward to the next chapter. Trying to restart it also causes it to skip to the next chapter or ahead. This is extremely annoying but not a deal breaker. PLAYON DO YOU HAVE ANY ANSWERS FOR THIS? Just to make you familiar with the WDTV LIVE when you restart a video or movie in WDTV Live you are given an option to restart or continue from same spot. Niether of these features do there intended function when dealing with streaming media.
Any help would be appreciated
EDIT- ok since I posted this I found my answer I think regarding the netflix restart issue. The Admin stated that this is a Netflix server issue and the movie will have to be adjusted through IE on the host computer to get it to start where the user wants
if you check out the Engadet posts, one person is indicating it's works with PlayOn pretty much right out the box. I just bought one myself, will pick it up tonight and test it out as well. http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/13/western-digital-wd-tv-live-hd-media-p...

Geffel34:
I am having the same issues. Can you please tell me where you found this information from the Admin about Netflix?
Thanks for your help.
