After installing the latest update, follow some advice from tech support to install IE8 and manually replacing some install files the video quality of Netflix is signifigantly worse. Last week I was frustrated by all the data corruption errors, but it would eventually work and looked good. Now it works more often, but the quality is alway pixelated and the sound doesn't match. Even with the quality set to MAX instead of the recommended AUTO. This happens on every Netflix movie or show I try to watch.
Buyer beware - if you are getting this product to watch Netflix, you'll be sorry. I've appreciated the speed at which tech support has answered my questions, but they say quality is out of their control. They will also ignore any request for refund. Make sure and take full advantage of your 14 day trial. I was satisfied with the product after 5 days so I bought it. Then everything changed and they are not sympathetic.
I've spent hours trying to get this to work right. Just not worth it. I hope netflix eventually goes right on the PS3 like the 360.

We're sorry if your experience so far with PlayOn has been lackluster. A couple of things to note: 1) The audio sync issues will be improved a lot in our next release (hours away!), and 2) the Netflix player by default starts off using a lower quality stream, and then as the bandwidth is determined to be able to handle an increase, the video is automatically adjusted to use a higher resolution stream. It may take a few minutes to see the increase in quality. Have you noticed this?

same here and quality does not improve as the playback continues. prior to the latest issue and newest patch; netflix playback quality was excellent.
Same problem here. I had watched several netflix movies on my ps3. On the settings console on my PC I manually set the video quality to max and it always worked just fine. Now after the latest update, nothing else has changed and the video quality seems to be much poorer, video seems to slow down, and the audio gets out of sync.
I wish there was a way I could uninstall the patch, because mine is completely unusable right now.
Try changing your Video Quality settings in Playon from Auto to High or Max. I changed mine from Auto to High, restarted the server and my video quality is nice again. I also had the problem with audio being off by a couple seconds which was fixed by running in User Mode by stopping Playon Server then holding Control while clicking Start.
You can't downgrade PlayOn to a previous version. Netflix will absolutely not work for you at all, as they made some modifications to their service which are incompatible with previous versions of PlayOn. We have a number of improvements lined up for our Netflix support -- we know it's not working optimally for a significant percentage of our users.

I tried the user mode thing with the quality set to maximum and I got the same results. If it had worked this poorly during my trial a few weeks ago, I never would have made the purchase. I guess I can only help my problems get fixed in the next release.
Its almost behaving like my computer isn't fast enough to stream/decode the video to keep up with the audio and make it fluid. Or the PS3 isn't getting it fast enough. But neither of those should be it since it worked flawlessly before the latest upgrade.
Since the update, I have experienced slower video, the credits at the end are jerky, etc.
glad to here this is not just happening to me....it is terrible, very jerky and choppy, I have used PlayOn for quite some time and this was never an issue until recently.
We are aware of these issues that are hitting a larger than normal percentage of our users. Our developers are working around the clock to make big improvements. We really apologize to those of you who are experiencing downgrades in quality. We hope to have some additional fixes shortly.

Just FYI, the drop in video quality is not PlayOn's fault. Netflix were the ones who made major changes to their streaming service in recent days which rendered older versions of PlayOn useless. PlayOn is just responding to Netflix's changes by releasing an update that even thou didn't restore Netflix's video quality to what it used to be, at least the videos play again and you cant watch them. Yes, the current quality sucks a bit, but it's WAY better than what I get if I access Netflix from my laptop and plug it into my 52 inch LCD.
Let's not forget that PlayOn doesn't have an official agreement with Netflix which means Netflix can change whatever they want whenever they want and PLayOn is just playing catch up.
I'm glad PlayOn at least reacted fast when Netflix pulled the rug from under them.
Just an FYI from my perspective. Netflix is not usable through playon on my ps3 in it's current state. In addition to the poor quality, the frame rate is extremely low and the audio extremely out of sync. It is impossible to watch.
Please send in a support request through PlayOn Settings. We would of course like to help!

DITTO!
We are working on fixing the quality and A/V sync issues with Netflix, and expect to release again in the next few days. Have you sent in a support ticket through PlayOn Settings?
PlayOn Administrator
I haven't been able to send in a support ticket yet, but I will asap. I just haven't had the time at home lately, but should tonight at some point.
Then here is a suggestion: Don't charge people for software you know is broken. Or at least give a refund when your 'patch' manages to make the product worse for a 'significant percentage of users' - like I've asked for several times and have been denied.
PlayOn - such a good idea, but FAILs and frustrates on too many levels. I really hope Sony and Netflix work it out soon so I can stop using this software.
We're sorry to hear about your frustrations with PlayOn. We state in our FAQ that we can't offer guarantees about service outages -- and we regard the sync issues with Netflix essentially as a service outage for many of our users. We work very hard to restore service as quickly as possible. Being at the very forefront of the Internet-to-TV space, it's an unfortunate reality that there are hiccups along the road. We do know that things will only improve. We hope that you will give us a second chance over the coming days, weeks, and months!

Just an FYI. Netflix switched completely over to Silverlight as their player. It is Silverlight that is causing the poor video quality. I opted in when they were testing it and the quality sucked. This is more Microsoft's problem than anyone. Everyone needs to call netflix and complain about Silverlight. Than maybe they will get on the ball and get something done. I would say that playon is doing quite well considering what they have to work with.
