My dsm-520 firmware was upgraded to version 10601. SInce that upgrasde I can no longer watch hulu content on my dlink. The list of shows is available however when I select any show I get an error message after a minute or so that It can not play the content. Has any one else had similiar issues? If so is there anybody who has access to the previous firmware so I can downgrade. I miss my hulu.
Fixed duration issue for DSM-520 where videos may end early.
Well, I was very excited to see this in action and tried watching a Hulu stream yesterday. It ended about 5 minutes into the video. I have the settings on Medium, with plenty of hard disk space. Generally, it seems to be hit or miss on early endings. Sometimes I can get all the way through, sometimes it ends a minute or so early. But lately I have been having videos end apbruptly after about 5-10 min. Very frustrating.
Can anyone at Media Mall explain what problem the fix referenced above actually addressed? If it was my issue, is there something else I need to do?

I am on the free trial period right now I just bought the DSM-520 three weeks ago. I have been messing with it constantly since I opened the box. I get all my media and can watch my movies I have downloaded with no problem, but when I use PlayOn I get this message a few minutes into Hulu and 30 minutes in Netflix
You have been disconnected from the default media server
Contacted Media Mall, Yes I have the latest f/w.
They said, Your logs show it is closing the connection for unknown reasons.
This is my log error: Unable to write data to the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by
the remote host.
I just purchased this computer brand new Dell doubt it's the drive space it came with 250GB
That is correct on the f/w (I am concerned though originally my husband and I downloaded the new firmware through wifi I don't remember the book saying not to, now I am hearing bad things about that. I used the USB stick and redid the whole thing. I can get my downloads fine just can't use PlayOn, hope I didn't mess up my box)
I have Vista Basic
Road Runner (Throttle????) Sorry not that computer savy :)
I can't help with Netflix since we use our dvd player for Netflix. It's a more pleasant experience.
Do your Admin/event logs show anything? Start > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Event Viewer. Sometimes Win will tell you if it closed your connections.
Oh, don't update DSM520 over wifi. Use stick or you have a good chance of bricking it.
Ok not 100% on what I'm looking for, but under Windows Logs/System there is this
Information 5/27/2009 11:44:00 AM Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider 7036 None
The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the running state.
then this seems to occur around the time I get disconnected
Information 5/27/2009 12:06:31 PM Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider 7036 None
The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the stopped state.
I really appreciate your help, I've been going insane trying to make this work I really like it.
Ok also just found this there's a few hundred listed

Same problem here. Support was no help. They just said it was the 520 doing it so there was nothing they can do.
I just bought a DSM520, and installed PlayOn on my laptop run with Windows Vista. Video streaming from any internet tv such as Hulu was very choppy (stalled every minute or so). However, video archives on my laptop were played smoothly via window media center. When I checked CPU performance during Hulu streaming via PlayOn, CPU capacity was utilized for only 20%.
Anybody knows why?
My router: Dlink 802.11g 54Mbps
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual T2310.
Thank you in advance.

Verify that you're using the latest firmware. If you're using wireless, there are many different factors which may be affecting your throughput. You might begin troubleshooting by installing Netstumbler and surveying your site to ensure you're on a clear channel free from other nearby devices which are using the channel or generating interference on said channel. Once you're setup on a proper channel, verify signal strength is strong and test throughput.
A quick way to eliminate the possibility of wireless problems, is to jack in directly w/ an ethernet cable and test. Once connected, verify throughput from one of many available speed tests ( www.speakeasy.net/speedtest ) and work forward from there.
I own a DSM-520 and use it often via wireless 802.11g.
Network conditions are optimal here, and it works great with PlayOn.
Don't even bother trying to stream PlayOn over WiFi. Any media stored on my Home Server streams perfectly fine over WiFi but anything I load from PlayOn (Netflix, Hulu, etc) can't go 15 seconds without stopping or freezing. I finally got fed up enough that I run a CAT 5 line through the attic from my office to my living room and hooked up a switch for my 520, Xbox, and PS2. Now I can get video to play well from everything but Netflix. I have another thread open now. Netflix performance has been horrible since the recent PlayOn software upgrades.
We use a PS3 in our HT room and had moved my old 520 into the master bedroom. I must say, I was hesitant at first but I gave it a whirl. I'm here to tell you that my wife and I have used the 520 with PlayOn for nearly two weeks with no problems.
Granted, you don't get the thumbnails and extensive descriptions that you get on the PS3 but it works fine. So well, I don't know why The MediaMall doesn't have it as one of their supported devices. I understand that it takes time to test each of the many streaming devices out there but take it from me, if you have one lying around collecting dust, hook it up and enjoy.
You'll be glad you did. If anyone needs help with their 320 or 520 playing nice with PlayOn, post here and I'll be glad to help...Will
How do you control the "BUFFER" notifacations? Is there a driver to down load to control that "stop and start"?
I am having a lot of trouble with you tube videos. It frequently buffers and is very annoying
any suggestions
thanks

I have no issues with Hulu as long as Playon is working.
Maybe it's something else or the fw update didn't take.
In the notes for Version 2.59.3419 it includes:

First where is the log error from .... Mediamall I assume.
How much free hard drive space is on drive C:\ before you start running Playon?
I assume you are running f/w 1.06.01?
What OS are you using?
Are you using a provider that throttles?
I use a 520 and never had this issue.
Yes mediamall showed me the log error message
