Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

My bandwidth is not great (DSL) but I've always been able to play Hulu without many issues. My wii discovers all the channels, but none of the channels will play. All episodes and clips show, but when getting to the actual playing, they all sit on the loading screen, without moving. Tried CNN, YouTube, Hulu and one third party plugin site. Going to my laptop, I have no issues playing vids from Hulu and the PlayOn server says my bandwidth is Medium. Any ideas what may be the problem?

Could be a number of things. Can you send in a support request in PlayOn Settings so we can take a look?

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

Greetings,

My Wii is experiencing the same problems today as you mentioned. It gets to the loading screen and just stops. I have Max on bandwidth and processor speed. Did you upgrade your browser on the Wii? Mine worked until I upgraded and I think that may be part of the the issue. Any update from support?

We're testing now, and it looks like there's definitely a number of compatibility issues with the new Wii browser. We'll keep people updated, but for now, it looks like the Wii functionality in PlayOn has been crippled somewhat.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

I can't even get that far. It's not displaying all files and folders. I get 404 errors when i do get all the way to a file. Sometimes it'll just show a folder as empty even on hulu or other internet channels. Worked perfectly last night and i was excited to use it again today. Stupid me, i thought upgrading to the new browser would make it even better.

My Wii also has stopped working after a browser update. No videos from PlayOn appear to work on my Wii now. Anyone know how to rollback browser update or workaround the issue?

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

I downloaded the updated Wii browser this morning (9/2/09) and was able to get PlayOn to work with one caveat: When I would get to the video loading screen (buffering screen), it would be stuck at about 5-10% and it wouldn't move from that point no matter how long I would wait. As a workaround, I found I just needed to click on the Wii browser refresh button at the bottom of the Wii Internet Browser and the videos would begin playing instantly. Hope this helps somebody!!!

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

SIMPLE SOLUTION for Stuck @ Loading Screen (until fix is released)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Simply hit reload page on the Wii Browser and the video will start.

I have only tried this with Hulu so far, but at least that works.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

I am having similar issues with the Wii playing video on its browser, however it is slightly different. I can eventually get video to start playing with the Netflix player, but I can only play a few minutes before I get an "out of memory error". I have 4 Gb of memory in the Wii, but that doesn't seem to matter and plenty of drive space on my computer. Please help.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

The two issues we will be fixing in the upcoming release so it works with the latest Wii browser are:

1) The inability to start playback on the first try.

2) The "out of memory" error.

Hopefully just a few hours away. We're wrapping up testing.

I'm running on the free account right now and am also having these issues. I'm gonna buy this software even in in broken state just by reading that last update. Wow

Thanks for the vote of confidence! We just posted release 2.59.3535, which should hopefully address the issues with the new Wii browser.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

PlayOn claims to be up to date. States it is 2.59.3525.39 however it is still failing to work with the new Wii browser on my machine. Both problems you were trying to address still happen. In addition to the memory problem, sometimes the play back just freezes without a memory message.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

Hey TG, you have to download Playon from the site and install it, this update doesn't work with the auto update/patching.

It's working well for me again. It looks like the PlayOn team has bumped up the resolution some as well. I notice if I un-zoom it that it looks like the video is a bit larger.

It also seems like the audio isn't quite as compressed. It could just be the material I was playing but I know with the previous versions the audio compression was exceptionally noticeable.

The video doesn't seem to drop quite as many frames as it seemed to before.

To me the video does still look a bit blurry but it is definitely watchable.

I do wish that the down arrow when browsing would be located at the bottom rather then at the top. It just seems much more natural to have it located below. I also wish we could customize the text for descriptions and such. I would like it to be a bit larger.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

You are right. After an uninstall and reinstall things are working. The user interface has changed and it is an improvement.

While I can understand that an update will not work with an auto-update feature. I have a hard time understanding why an application which has a version check feature is unable to reliably state what the latest version is.

Also whoever is posting as "admin", please state the complete version number that is necessary to acquire a fix. Since the version check will not work as noted above, it is important to be precise when stating how to fix an issue. "admin" stated that version "2.59.3535" would have the fix. Well I had version 2.59.3535.39 which was still broken. It was version 2.59.3535.40 which contained the fix.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

The "check for update" feature in PlayOn Settings will be more up to date with the current version and moving forward. Note that you most likely had version 2.59.3525.39 before and not 2.59.3535.40. (Note that it was 3525 and not 3535.)

You are correct. I skipped over the 25 vs. 35.

Re: Wii doesn't want to play anything, but bandwith seems fine

I am getting the 404 on the Netflix and YouTube sites going through the Wii. I downloaded and installed 2.59.3540.42 and it is still happening and referencing that specific release number. I have max bandwidth everything is high except for my cpu which shows as low. This worked up until about a week ago when I started getting the 404's. CNN videos appear to be fine.

I upgraded my wii to the latest firmware yesterday. And netflix does not work any more. Hulu does work though.

There is a known issue with Netflix, which just cropped up yesterday. We should have a fix within the next day or two.

Re: 404 file not found Wii

I'm using a Wii. When I click on Play, on any of the Web sites, CNN, Netflix, Hulu, uTube, etc. I get an error message "404 Not Found. MediaMallServer/2.59.3584.54. I'm using the free trial version.
