Resume Last Played media

I imagine others have asked for this, but I didn't see this exact feature request.

I would like a feature that would allow the resuming of the last played media.

Basically with this "feature" enabled, playon will continue to transcode a stared stream/show even if the user pauses/stops. The transcoding is written to a file.

The next time the client connects, it is presented with an extra "folder" on the first screen "resume last viewed media". If the user selected "resume" Playon would then stream the previously saved file (ie, not reconnect to the source stream).

(I would love, love, love this. Often I do not have time to finish an hour show on one setting. This would allow playon to be more like a PVR.)

If you make sure you enable full video processing in PlayOn Settings, and you re-select the same exact video through your DLNA client and have not restarted your PlayOn server, you should be able to resume the most recently played video.

I tried that with Hulu on XMBC and SageTV and they both started over again.

(Note: I stopped playback. I can pause and continue, but once I stop, I can not resume.)

That should not be the case. Please send in a support request through PlayOn Settings so we can take a look.

I have also not been able to resume. Resume has never worked for me in Hulu or Netflix.

I do it all the time (PS3). For me, it works as "admin" describes it.

Will this work even after the nightly "scratch file scrub" performed by the playon service?

Actually, it won't work if you wait overnight, as the service restarts itself. It's on our development to-do list to fix this.

I would like to see this fixed as well. I believe most of us wish to continue the video not the same night, but in the next couple of days when we find the time...

Re: Resume Last Played media

A 5 minute skip button would be nice as well for when resume doesn't work and you want to get back where you left off.
I'm up through the night so if I close out an episode before 12 and try to resume later it wouldn't resume anyway.
So my vote would be for a 5 minute forward button.
Maybe even having a 5 and a 3 minute button to make it easier to get back to the right spot, and of course buttons for going backward as well.

I would also like to throw my support behind such a feature. I frequently watch things before going to bed and inevitably fall asleep while doing so. Without this feature it means I either have to watch it from the beginning the next night (and then fall asleep at the same point...) or watch it on my computer.

Perhaps an option to allow playon an amount of disk space in order to cache the transcoded media? That would be way rad.

I have to add that this really is the only small complaint I have with this software. I really love playon, I have recommended it to my friends, and I thank you for the work you have done in creating it!
