Make it plasma friendly.

I have a plasma TV with DLNA and here are a few ideas that will make playON more preferred to the windows 7 DLNA streaming capabilities for plasma set owners.

1. stretch/fit content = all plasma owners will want their content stretched to fit to avoid the black bar burn in. also not all plasmas have inbuilt stretching esp for DLNA content.

2. folder play and screensavers - i can play mp3's from my windows 7 machine, but it allows me to only play 1 mp3 at a time. i cannot select an entire folder to play even though i can see the whole folder on my pc. playON needs to be able to stream a whole bunch of mp3's as a single file from the TV's perspective and play them. also, when it plays mp3s it doesnt kick into screensaver mode immediately, so what probably needs to happen is a video stream with a blank video can envelope the mp3 and stream it across to the DLNA player.

3. shuffle and queuing abilities = pretty self explanatory except the ability to queue up different kinds of media would be nice.

thanks.

Are you talking about stretching (and thus warping) 4:3 aspect ratio images, like those generated by Netflix?

Don't speak for all of us plasma owners please. Count me as somebody who does NOT want my content stretched/warped. Plasma burn-in has not a problem for several generations now except in extreme cases (like leaving an image on the screen for 48 hours or so). That myth refuses to die.

An option to stretch is ok (for those people who hate the black bars and would rather see their content all stretched out and ugly and warped).

Agreed. I do not want my content strectched either.
Does your plasma not have the option to do this a) automatically and b)only when you want?

Re: Make it plasma friendly.

what is wrong with having the option to stretch? turn it off if u dont want it.

Also plasma tvs burning in is not a myth, contact pioneer, panasonic or samsung techs and they will tell u its not a myth. it is far less problematic than before, but it is still very real. if u watch SD content all the time, put on some HD vibrant content and immediately u will see the contrast deeper on the edges that have not been used at all since SD showed bars.

i use a DLNA enabled TV to view this content, and it allows for either expanded or original sizes, but not stretched in DLNA mode since that is processing that the tv doesnt have any mechanism for.

my tv also streams youtube directly and i have a roku, so technically i dont need playon, but if it had the above mentioned features, esp the mp3 empty video container, it would be a valuable software to have.

There's nothing wrong with it as an option, but the way you presented it made it seem as though it should be hardwired, and not optional.
